欧文康考迪亚大学 (CUI) hosted its 2nd Annual Latina Leadership Conference on Saturday, 10月21日, marking another important step in the private, non-profit Lutheran Christian four-year university's initiative to become a full-serving Hispanic-Serving Institution (恒生指数).
What is a Hispanic-Serving Institution?
Any time a two-year or four-year college or university—public or private—has an undergraduate student population made up of 25 percent or more Hispanic 学生, 那 institution is designated as an 恒生指数, or Hispanic-Serving Institution by the U.S. 教育部. 恒生指数 designation allows institutions to compete 为 federal grants 那 fund faculty professional development, 课程开发, and expand existing or establish new student services—to better serve first-generation, 主要是西班牙, 学生. 根据美国.S. 教育部, there are nearly 500 colleges and universities designated as 恒生指数s in the United States and Puerto Rico, and about 300 considered emerging 恒生指数s, meaning they’re close to reaching the 25 percent threshold.
